Day 1: National Focus - Abortion

The church has influenced legal thinking and the ethical discussions surrounding abortion since 13th century.  Until the early 20th century the law aimed at reducing access to legal abortion. Thousands of women attempting illegal abortion died from medication poisoning or instrumentally induced septicaemia. In 1967-8 The Abortion Law legalised abortion under certain conditions. This was seen primarily as a move to prevent maternal deaths. It failed to recognise that the legalising of the destruction of life was opening the door of permission to hardening of hearts and an elevation ofconvenience of lifestyle over sanctity of life. As we move on in21st century western society, these trends, increasingly influenced by secular humanism, continue to gain momentum, promoting Abortion Rights and failing to value the unborn child.

These issues will always remain challenging but the body of Christ must again enter in to the exploration of these ethical challenges and bring to light the diverse pain and confusion often experienced after abortions among women both within the Christian community and those currently beyond it.

Will we be those who are shaped by God's word and allow Him to speak to our society and the Law again about His perspective on Life and Death?  Let us join together in seeking an end to abortion in our nation.

Key Verse:

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
  Ps. 139:13-18

Prayer starters:

Proclamation
We proclaim that Yahweh is the self existent one who sustains everything He has created. He wills each one into existence. He writes the story of our life and designs the treasures that we have. Each person has been in His mind since before the creation of the world. His covenant blessings are immense and as we partner with Yahweh we receive blessings and our birthright of life, peace and joy.

Declaration
We declare that those in authority and leadership in Government and Health will have fresh revelation of Yahweh, the creator God. That they would know again the Word of God and that laws and policies would once more be shaped and formed in accordance with God's nature and character. We negate all policies , agendas and decisions which are contrary to God's law.

Blessing
We bless the leadership of the nation to have a spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel,     might and a fear of the Lord. We bless each one to have the mind of Christ, enabling them to make divinely directed decisions concerning the issues surrounding Abortion. We bless them with creative ideas bringing the nation back into alignment with God's will and purposes and that Government would act justly, love mercy and walk in humility concerning the laws and practices involving Abortion.
